It's safe to say Wolves provided the shock of the weekend after taking down Aston Villa on Friday at Molineux. Aston Villa find themselves fighting for a UEFA Champions League spot this season, whilst Wolves sit rock bottom of the league, recording only their 2nd victory of the season.

In the first half, Wolves seemed overrun in midfield and toothless in the final third, recording only 2 shots, and 0 troubling Emi Martinez. They spent the majority of the first 45 out of possession, doing nothing but absorbing the waves of pressure coming their way.

To everybody's surprise, Wolves came out with more positivity, urgency and intensity in

the second half, and it wasn't long before Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes (pictured below) put the hosts in front with a thunderous strike, cannoning off the underside of the crossbar on its way over the line. Cleverly assisted by Adam Armstrong.

Villa chased for the equaliser, forcing Jose Sa into multiple late saves to keep the visitors at bay. However in the last minute of the game, Wolves finally put Villa out of their misery, after Rodrigo Gomes capitalised on a fantastic counter attack, in which he succeeded to find a way past Martinez between the sticks.

This win for Wolves pushed Villa down to fourth place, with Man Utd only ahead on goal difference after taking down Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. This also gives Wolves a small glimmer of hope in their survival chances, although still 12 points off 18th place West Ham.
