Leeds United Move Nine Points Clear of Drop-Zone After Win vs Clarets

It was Leeds United who emerged triumphant under the lights on Friday, recording their eighth home win of the season, and extending their Premier League unbeaten run to six following the 3-1 victory over managerless Burnley. The Whites now sit nine points clear of the relegation zone, with Opta predicting only a 0.12% chance of the club going down.

Leeds started quickly, displaying high intensity from the outset. Just eight minutes in, German midfielder Anton Stach scored with a precise, powerful shot into the bottom right corner, beating the outstretched dive of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. This early goal energized Leeds and their supporters, creating an electric atmosphere. Despite this setback, Burnley showed resilience, focusing on defensive solidity and maintaining their shape. They managed only two shots on goal in the first half, with a low expected goals (xG) tally of 0.06, struggling to breach Leeds' organized defence. Leeds dominated possession, dictating the game's pace and creating chances, while Burnley focused on countering and defending. This tactical battle highlighted Leeds' aggressive attack against Burnley's disciplined defence.

Whilst Burnley were able to dictate possession for the majority of the second half, Leeds were able to continue their relentless pressure on the Burnley backline. Noah Okafor fired home on 52 minutes following an excellent piece of build-up play from centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has excelled at times, since arriving at Elland Road on a free transfer. Calvert-Lewin then went on to grab another well-deserved goal for the whites, taking the deficit to three not long after Okafor's strike. The Englishman capitalised on Dubravka's parry to deny Ao Tanaka's effort from outside the box.

nces, and on 71 minutes, Loum Tchaouna converted one beyond Karl Darlow. Despite this goal, the game didn't feel threatened. Before they knew it, Leeds were back on the front foot and saw the minutes count down to full time, adding further misery to the Clarets' season.
