It was a disappointing outing for Cardiff yesterday as they found themselves on the end of a 7-0 trouncing away at Leeds United.
Leeds struck the first blow early on, with Joel Piroe, Daniel James and Brenden Aaronson linking up for Aaronson's 8th of the season, only 6 minutes in. 7 minutes later, Leeds found the net once again. Daniel James the playmaker for the 2nd time, finding Solomon on the opposite side, slotting it away for his 3rd in 4 games.
The match remained 2-0 until the half-time break, with Leeds pushing for more and Cardiff lost for ideas.
The 3rd came only 5 minutes into the second half, as Daniel James netted a well deserved goal for the league leaders, Junior Firpo the architect in his first start since the end of November, as he was sidelined with a hamstring issue.
The 4th came from a penalty, conceded by left midfielder Callum O'Dowda as he tripped Daniel James inside the penalty area. Joel Piroe stepped up and slotted a powerful penalty into the bottom left corner, wrong-footing Jak Alnwick whilst doing so.
The goals didn't stop there for Leeds United. Substitute Willy Gnonto made a fabulous run from the right-hand side, drifting in-field and converting a left-footed strike beyond Alnwick's dive and into the bottom right corner.
Number 6 came from another substitute, this time 21 year old Mateo Joseph. Junior Firpo whipped a ball into the box and Joseph made the connection. The game couldn't end soon enough for Cardiff.
The 7th and final goal came from Dutchman Joel Piroe, netting himself a brace. Junior Firpo completed his Hat-trick of assists as he played an intelligent ball through to Piroe for his 12th of the season
It was an afternoon to forget for Cardiff City,
as they endured a tough match that left both fans and players disheartened. With missed chances and a lack of cohesion on the field, the team's performance did not meet expectations.
The key moments of the match included:
Early Missed Chances: Cardiff City had several opportunities to fight back but failed to convert.
Defensive Lapses: A series of defensive errors allowed Leeds to capitalize and score crucial goals.
Injuries: The team suffered from injuries that hampered their ability to compete effectively.
Overall, it was a day Cardiff City would prefer to erase from their memory as they aim to regroup and focus on their FA cup tie vs Stoke next week.
